Biography
My name is Sarah Tran. I moved from Vietnam to Texas in 2007. I am a dance artist, performer, choreographer, and educator. I graduated from Texas Woman’s University (TWU) with a BA in Dance Studies in May 2019. I am currently pursuing my Master of Fine Arts in Dance at TWU.
After many desperate attempts due to financial status and lack of family support, I finally became a member of the Bowie Belles drill team in high school. This was the very first opportunity for me to be part of a dance organization, however, it only lasted for a year. I decided to major in dance at TWU, where my professional dance training really began.
My strengths are modern dance, hip-hop, contemporary, and improvisation. Previously, I was a dance coach at Dynasty Dance Academy and a hip-hop instructor at TWU Fitness & Recreation Center. I am currently a modern/contemporary instructor for advanced level at Denton Ballet Academy. I have been a visiting choreographer for the Bowie Belles drill team every year since 2016, the same place where I first encountered dance.
My most recent works (04301975 and Living) were presented at the DanceMakers concert series at TWU, Texas Storytelling Festival, and Artists Enclave’s Day of the Dance show in downtown Denton (2019).
I am striving to become a professional choreographer and a Professor of Dance after earning my MFA degree.

Artist Statement
I am an artist, dancer, choreographer, and educator.
I explore the correlation between movements and music, for each movement to be inspired by the rhythmic distinctiveness of sound. I am interested in emphasizing the quality of movements to be one with the music to visually and aurally satisfy the audience’s experience. I am driven by music, my work revolves around musicality and honesty.
While I dance I cannot separate from my identity. It is a privilege to recognize emotions and thoughts from within, knowing that it is not dead. Dance enables active engagement and connection to all senses, acknowledging that my body is alive and my mind is conscious.
Once identity is brought to realization, I strive to create interpersonal relationships between dancers by catalyzing their unique selves to take part in the same world and share the same energy.
